The Faculty of Social Sciences, Waseda University held the International Symposium on the Issues and Prospects toward Peace-building and International Cooperation on July 27, 2019. Four people gave presentations from Timor-Leste, Thailand and Japan, including our faculty member, Asst. Prof. Oratai Soparat. Asst. Prof. Oratai gave a talk on Ceasefire and its Impact on Democratization in Myanmar: A Case Study on Kachin Community. She showed the fascinating evidence that as promoting democracy at a very first period of transition may cause violence; ironically, the resulting situation of unrest sometimes caused people to learn the principle of democracy, such as a condition of equality, civil and political rights.In accordance with the MoA with Faculty of Social Sciences, Waseda University, Asst. Prof. Oratai was invited to participate in this symposium.
